Pets & Personal Branding: Bringing your furry pal to your photoshoot
Personal branding photography tells your story,
Pets are a huge part of our lives. They deserve a little time in the spotlight, and area a wonderful addition to your photos. I say this as a completely biased animal-lover, of course. I am all for bringing your animal pal into your photoshoot!
But in an unbiased view, we’re now in a period of time where our pets are becoming more important in our lives than ever. People connect with other people over shared interests, over compassion and empathy. Dogs are coming into the office as a part of the team. They can be moral support, employee of the month, an ice-breaker for clients.
If your pet is a big part of your life or business, consider including them in your portrait session.
How Can You Incorporate your pet in your photos?
I’ve taken many portraits including pets, and there are a couple of ways you can include them in your photos.
1 – Holding them for your hero head and shoulders portrait or LinkedIn Headshot.
2 – A wider image of you walking with them, crouching near them, or interacting with them candidly.
3 – A solo pet portrait. Perfect for your team or ‘about’ page.

Do you have an interesting pet?
While I’ve photographed plenty of dogs throughout my time as a branding photographer, I encourage you not to shy away from including other pets in your photos.
Smaller animals that are comfortable travelling into a studio environment can be a wonderful conversation starter if they are featured in your photos. Pet reptiles, cats, and birds, for example. For those with larger pets or livestock, an on-location branding session could be the way to go.
Remember, your branding photos are about showcasing who you are.
Branding photography tells your story, your personality and are your ultimate tool for connecting to clients and being memorable.
