All About My Headshot Studio in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne
Guess what? I’ve moved. This is an old post, and I have a new one introducing my studio here.
My Studio is in beautiful Lilydale. So let’s take a tour:
Picturesque Lilydale is to the east of Melbourne and located within the beautiful Shire of the Yarra Ranges.
I grew up here, and I am lucky enough to have the studio at the back of my parent’s property within a historic Nissan Hut. It overlooks the Dandenong Ranges, and is surrounded by fields, gumtrees and Australian bushland. If you’re there at the right time, you might see some Kangaroos at the back of the property too.
The first thing people tend to say to me when they arrive for their session is how beautiful the area is. It’s not too far away from everything, but it feels so peaceful, secluded and private. I use this to my advantage – scenery is a great way to relax people, so the session starts out this way.
The Surroundings & Scenery:
Looking out from my studio you’ll see fields, trees, and the Dandenong Ranges on the horizon. It’s a beautiful view.
You’ll also find acres of natural bushland on the property too, with so much scenery. From ground-covering ferns, to sparse dry bushland.
The Studio:
My studio is great for headshots and portraits. I shoot against a range of painted backdrops in both natural light and with studio light.
For those full length shots, we can go for something a little more industrial with concrete floor, or we can transform it into something seamless.
I have a range of lighting and equipment to achieve various looks. You’re welcome to coffee and water too!
Just outside is a little paved area where you, or anyone you have brought along, can take a seat and enjoy the scenery.
The Backdrops:
Backgrounds are a really important part of a headshot or portrait. They may not seem like it, and often they are blurred out of focus, but what is in a background can really create a dynamic shot, or it can break it.
For my studio we can go with something clean against the wall, add some colour, or some texture.
For natural light images we can still stay in the studio and use the range of backdrops inside, or we can explore the many opportunities in the surroundings of the property. This can range from natural – all throughout the bushland, and within the paddocks, as well as a little more industrial, dark and moody, or light an airy.
